Babiesssss! My favorite topic! Being in my early 30’s, a lot of my life is surrounded by friends and family having babies. Two of my best friends had babies last year and luckily there are already more on the schedule (lol) for this year too!

Gender reveals are becoming more and more common, but somehow I had never attended one. A lot of my friends did not want to find out what they were having and in turn, no gender reveal parties!

One of my friends who is pregnant decided that since she didn’t find out for her first child, she wanted to have that experience for her second. Lucky for me, her and her husband chose me to plan their gender reveal party. I found myself planning one when I had never went to one…but they are all over social media…I figured I would be fine.

I set out to plan. I order decorations, the confetti poppers, and baby clothes for the mom-to-be to open once she knew the gender. After convincing myself that I also needed pink balloons falling (spoiler alert…its a girl) because the Amazon reviews for all of the confetti poppers were iffy…I needed to decide on food.

If you have read any of my other blog posts, you probably have seen my obsession with charcuterie boards. I like to make themed ones for every holiday or event…so this gender reveal party was going to be no different.

When planning a charcuterie board, I like to scan Google Images or Pinterest for inspiration. There is a charcuterie themed board for all occasions and oddly enough there wasn’t any for gender reveals or baby showers. This motivated me to come up with some original ideas that could help people out who are in my shoes down the line.

When first brainstorming, I tried to think of pink and blue foods to add to the board. Other than candies or mints, blue really dominates. Blueberries, blue cheese, blue tortilla chips…all of these were great but I needed balance. I instead tried to go with a white themed and sprinkle the colored mints around the board as filler.

I tend to go overboard when I start buying items for a charcuterie board. I love to lay out all the options so I can be as creative as possible. No food will go bad…I mean…it is meat a cheese, the adult lunchable. I will definitely eat it.

The best way to start a charcuterie board is to establish the biggest things on your board. The things that you bought specifically to be used for this particular board. For this baby themed board, it was these white letters that I got off Amazon that spelled, “B-A-B-Y”

Next, I followed with the largest meats and cheeses that I was going to use. I find myself using brie on most of my boards. They are a bold use of space.

Quick Tip: Use a cookie cutter to remove the outer layer of brie and fill the image with jam. For example, for my Halloween Board, I used a pumpkin cookie cutter and filled the taken out cheese with orange jam.

After the cheeses (most importantly) and the meats are established, add your crackers and fruits that you are using. Space will start to fill up quickly. I find that boards that are completely covered and have very little board showing are the most aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

In my opinion, you cannot decorate a charcuterie board wrong. It’s like art. People have different opinions on what they find beautiful. Just continue to move all the ingredients until you find you are happy with the results.

I would suggest going on Amazon and finding baby themed items that you can easily add for added baby flare. For me, that was confetti that said, “Oh Baby!” and little sugar cookies that were baby bottles and carriages.

I am hoping this will not be my last gender reveal party, so if you have any suggestions for next time, let me know!
