Among my friends and family, I am known for the Christmas themed charcuterie board that I make each Christmas Eve. Last year I even made a log cabin out of pretzel rods and Cheez Whiz.

This year I have been trying to make themed charcuterie boards for other holidays as well. First I made a Patriotic Themed Charcuterie Board that I made for Memorial Day. I used it again for the 4th of July and Labor Day. It was so fun and I had seen a few Halloween Themed Charcuterie Boards and I couldn’t wait.

I started collecting snacks and props in early September. It took some inspiration from different boards that I saw on Pinterest and Instagram and slowly pieced together my own.

Whenever I design a charcuterie board I start with placing the larger objects or the focal points on the board first and slowly add.

In this case it was the skeletons wrapped in prosciutto. If duplicating, you need to get skeletons that hold their structure well and not flopping around. They need to be able to stay in a sitting position and keep the legs and arms in positions that you want them. I used the ones linked below. They were cheap and honestly worked out great.

After setting the skeletons where I thought they looked the best, I used the wheel of brie cheese I got and wanted to spice it up. Using a cookie cutter, I took that hard, top layer off the cheese and replaced it with an orange jam. I used apricot. You could leave it just like this but to put a little more Halloween flair instead of just fall, I added chocolate chips to make a jack-o’-lantern.

Once these main focal points are on the board, it just a matter of moving things around to what looks good. I would suggest pulling things from your house that you already have from your Halloween decorations. For example, I used these black skeleton shot glasses I had and put in gummy worms, as to look like gross worms spilling out of the skull.

Candy on a charcuterie board is always acceptable (there are no rules!), but I tend to stick with meat, cheeses, fruits, and jams during the year. But can you have a Halloween themed charcuterie board WITHOUT candy?? I don’t think so. I wanted to make it cute though of course and found little pumpkin containers to put the candy in. I used Reese’s Pieces because of the colors and Wasabi Peas because they kind of look like slime to me.

Another little fun tip I used was peeling some clementine’s and sticking a small pretzel rod in the top to make it look like a pumpkin. One or two around the edges of the board really adds dimension and added creativity.

Following those additions, I placed the other “normal” meats and cheeses throughout the board. I really spent some time in the grocery store going through each aisle trying to find Halloween snacks. Below is what I found:

  1. Trader Joe’s Ghost’s and Bat’s Crispy Potato Snacks (click the link here for my review- they don’t taste the best…but they are a cute add on for looks)
  2. Kroger’s Halloween themed cookies- the ones I chose were purple bats, green ghosts, and orange pumpkins.
  3. Green olives stuffed with feta cheese (looks like eyeballs a bit)

After arranging everything I added some plastic spiders that I had in my decorations and voila! Charcuterie boards are sooo fun to make and you cannot go wrong. I could spend hours moving things into different positions to see what looks best!
