Another week, another charcuterie board post…which are honestly my favorite to make. It’s February so that means Valentine’s Day is coming up. Whether you have a significant other, are hanging out with some girlfriends, or hanging out with a bottle of wine at home…this charcuterie board is a nice, easy touch to make your night feel fancier.

This board was one of my favorites. There was so much more candy and coloring involved than on a normal charcuterie board. I loved walking through the grocery store looking at red, pink, and white things that could be made into unique items on the board.

When I go grocery shopping for items, I always make a list…I will forget something otherwise. But I definitely take my time walking through the store and end up with wayyy more items that I had intended to buy. The creative juices start flowing and I want to have everything at my fingertips when I start to construct the “vision”.

As you can see above, I lay every potential ingredient out on the surface around the charcuterie board. I suggest organizing them by category: cheese, meats, fruits, crackers, and other (candies/cookies in this board). That way when you start creating, you know everything that you have.

I always suggest to put your larger items placed on the board first. Usually this would be the cheese. For example, for this board I was lucky enough to find a heart shaped brie! Brie is by far the easiest cheese to jazz up on a charcuterie board. Because of it’s outer layer, you can use cookie cutters to create different shapes in the cheese. Check out my Halloween Themed Charcuterie Board here where I used a pumpkin cookie cutter to cut through the outer layer of the brie, dug it out and filled it will orange jam.

As you see in the picture, this time I used a small heart-shaped cookie cutter to create a little bowl to hold in some Valentine sprinkles. I also think leaving the heart shaped brie alone would be beautiful as well!

For the other cheeses, I used:

  1.  Mozzarella Balls (with more Valentine’s sprinkles)
  2. Provolone slices cut into hearts with a cookie cutter
  3. Somerdale Red Dragon – I chose this based on it’s red exterior. It tastes amazing too!
  4. Babybel Red Cheese Wheel

Fruits I used:

  1. Strawberries
  2. Raspberries

Meats I used:

  1. Calabrese Salami & Fontina sticks – I love using them on my boards, as it is an easy way to make things look fancier
  2. Beef Summer Sausage, sliced
  3. Pepperoni Deli Slices (to be made into Roses)

Making pepperoni or salami roses are actually really easy to make. You just layer the meat over the edge of a wine glass and it will create layers of the flower. Check out the video below for step by step detail.

After the  meat and cheeses are set on the board, arrange your crackers and any bowls you intend to add.

After adding all of those items, fill the empty space with candies and chocolates. I think the best boards are those that fill every space.

One other tip that I would suggest would be to use some real flowers for a finishing touch. It’s super simple but pulls the whole look together. Check out my Sushi Charcuterie Board where I used fresh flowers here.

And Voila! Take your pretty pictures and serve for Valentine’s Day! Take a look at the pictures below for a more detailed look. Sometimes pictures for charcuterie boards are much more beneficial than a bunch of words! Let me know if you try to replicate this board or make your own style for Valentine’s Day!
